Using Wastewater to Create Energy

Breweries generate a very large amount of wastewater that must be purified prior to release into the environment. MSI PI Paige Novak (professor, Civil, Environmental, and Geo-Engineering) leads in a project that would capture the pollutants in this wastewater and transform them into clean energy. The research is featured on the website of the University of Minnesota Foundation: Energy drink. 

Professor Novak uses MSI resources for two projects that investigate microbial communities in a variety of systems.
